My Kollegium, Øresundskollegiet. Home for the Semester.
Four days until I leave freezing cold Chicago for freezing cold Copenhagen. Things are about to get weird. Considering that all of my friends have now officially left and are back at their respective schools, I thought this would be an appropriate time to write my first post. As a newcomer to the whole blogging/tumblr world patience on my first few posts will be appreciated.
I have called my tumblr The Hagen, short for Copenhagen, my home for the next semester (hopefully more cross your fingers for a european internship). I have chosen to live in what are called Kollegium, which are basically dorms, but have students from universities city wide living in them. Mine is called Øresundskollegiet. It is apparently the largest Kollegium in all of Scandinavia. I will be living with forty other DIS students throughout the complex, and Im sure it will feel like home in no time. I have a single room (at least thats what I thought) and the floor shares a common kitchen/living space.
Though I cannot wait to meet such a diverse group of American university students, and I hear the Danes are the coolest europeans; I am most looking forward to what I will be studying. Urban Design. I have never had the chance to take solely Architecture/Design courses during a semester. I cant wait to fully explore the Danish style and mindset when it comes to Design. Urban Design has always been my “endgame” when it comes to my education and career. I love the combination of scales, available to me when designing. I cannot wait to explore and learn about it in the best possible city, Copenhagen.
I will be taking:
European Urban Design Theories
Urban Design Studio (with a study tour to Finland and Sweden!)
History of Copenhagen, Structure, Plan, Design
Simplicity in Architecture and Design
Sustainable Architecture in the Alps (study tour to Austria!)
Now that literally all my friends are gone, I can focus on packing… but I can promise that I will not start until the morning before I leave. I figure that while I am in Copenhagen I will not be watching ANY tv. Therefore, I will need to intake as much Seinfeld before then if I am to hold out. Also, in these next few days, I plan on mastering Danish. I hear it might be useful over there.
